Donald Roy Atkinson, 71, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at his home.

He was born September 13, 1940, in Midwest City, OK, a son of Clarence Lee and Ruth Arlis Kiphart Atkinson. On September 14, 1992, in Miami, OK, he married Debra Ann Hughes, who preceded him in
death on September 7, 2005.

Mr. Atkinson was retired from the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant E-7. He served in the 321st Field Missile Maintenance Squadron. He was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church in Warrensburg. He was a talented craftsman, loved his farm and fishing, and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are five children, Clayton (Glenda) Atkinson, of Grand Forks, N.D., Lori Silcox, of Crookston, MN, Brenda (Daniel) Walters, of Dickinson, N.D., D. Breck (Trish) Atkinson, of Sedalia, and Elizabeth (Curtis) Silverest, of Vicksburg, MS; a stepson, Paul (Christina) White, of Sedalia; 15 grandchildren, Sabrina, Stephen, Lee, Katie, Joel, Leah, Seth, Valerie, Jake, Sienna, Sierra, Preston, William, Hayden and Haylee; and two great-grandchildren, Jenica and Natalie.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Swearingen; and two brothers, Robert and William Atkinson.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Crown Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Dewayne Jackson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Air Force.

Casket bearers will be grandsons.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.
